From the Kartemquin Archives: A letter from May 1981 to Gordon Quinn from the Nicaraguan Institute of Film, thanking us for a donating an Auricon 16mm camera to the Sandinista National Liberation Front.
The letter states (forgive our rough translation):
Friend!
We want to thank you for your gesture of solidarity in giving us a Auricon 16mm camera. We also assure you that this camera will serve to drive the film work in Nicaragua today as a tool of our people in their struggle for liberation and peace.
Gestures such as this one make us trust that some day our peoples will be united in the construction of a just economic order and free from exploitation.
Hoping that we will be able to maintain our relations and strengthen them even more, farewell with an embrace of Sandinista solidarity,
Nicaraguan Institute of Film
Take that, Contras! We would love to know what that camera captured.
